About me

My name is Seth Thompson, I am a student at the University of Oregon studying Journalism and Public Relations.

Since September 2023, I have been writing for The Chronicle as an intern sports reporter. Over the course of this internship, I’ve had the chance to cover athletics at all levels in the communities of Springfield, Creswell, Pleasant Hill and Cottage Grove.

During my time at UO, I have worked with different members of the community. I’ve worked on projects such as a series about local thrift stores and a variety of community events.

While I have published stories in an array of topics, sports journalism is what I’m passionate about. I’ve loved sports ever since I was a kid and always wanted a career within them. Of course, playing sports professionally isn’t a very financially lucrative decision, so I decided to chase cash by writing about them.

Jokes aside, I’m extremely interested in basketball, football and baseball, and have been forever. My goal is to be a reporter for a professional sports organization, developing relationships with players and coaches on that team.

During my time with The Chronicle, I’ve had the opportunity to be the Springfield Drifters primary beat reporter. I’ve developed and maintained relationships within the Drifters’ organization for two years, working with the team to drive attendance to their games. In Springfield’s 2024 and 2025 seasons I had full creative control over Drifters coverage. This opportunity has really given me a taste of working with a team as a primary beat reporter, and I know it’s something I love doing.
